On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting on the 6800 block of Sandle Drive. Upon arrival, officers found Shane Payne inside his residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, Payne was pronounced deceased at the scene.
JSO Homicide Detectives, along with members of the Crime Scene Unit, launched thorough investigations into both incidents. Through careful examination of the evidence and multiple interviews, detectives determined that these two cases were interconnected.
The investigation revealed that Timothy Dixon, a 16-year-old Black male, was the suspect responsible for the murder of Shane Payne. It was further uncovered that Dixon had acted with the assistance of Shane Payne Jr., a 17-year-old Black male, who facilitated Dixon's actions.
Subsequently, it was discovered that Shane Payne Jr. was responsible for the retaliatory killing of Timothy Dixon three days later. At the time of this revelation, Shane Payne Jr. was already incarcerated at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility on unrelated charges.
An additional arrest warrant was served on Shane Payne Jr., charging him with two counts of Second-Degree Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder. The intertwined nature of these events underscores the complexity of the investigation and the tragic loss of life involved.
