Four Armenian Soldiers Killed, 20 Others Injured in a Military Truck Accident

In a tragic incident on Friday, four Armenian soldiers lost their lives while 20 others sustained injuries when their military vehicle careened off the road and plunged into a ravine.

The accident involving a Ural truck occurred at approximately 3:25 pm local time, as confirmed by Armenia’s Defense Ministry. The soldiers involved were identified as Areg Kerobyan, Slavik Vardanyan, Davit Hakobyan, and Joseph Azolyan, highlighting the personal toll of the tragedy.

Reports indicate that the crash took place on the Nrnadzor road within the Meghri district of Armenia’s southern Syunik province, underscoring the remote and rugged terrain where military operations often unfold.

The severity of the injuries varies, with one soldier reported to be in critical condition, while others suffer from severe, moderate, and mild injuries, according to the Defense Ministry.

Authorities wasted no time in launching a criminal investigation, with Gor Abrahamyan, spokesperson for Armenia’s Investigative Committee, stating that the probe focuses on potential violations of driving or operating protocols for combat, special, or transport vehicles.

An investigative team has been assembled to delve into the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the root causes of the crash, signaling a commitment to accountability and transparency in the face of this tragic loss of life.
